Quick Route
Misery Town looks open-ended, but the cinema and projector sequence form its main route. Start by exploring the streets and talking to every character who gives a useful prompt. Then use the cinema to uncover the path that leads into the later puzzle chain, solve the Whack-a-Clown board when you reach it, and return to the town for the next story interaction.
Keep the normal route separate from the optional secret route. The Metal Detector, hidden remote, and later secret chain are worth doing if you are exploring deeply, but you do not need to turn every optional clue into your immediate objective. Follow the short route below first, then use the linked puzzle page when the clown board blocks you.
Start at the Cinema
The cinema is Misery Town’s most important early landmark. Enter it, inspect the projector room, and watch the clown films instead of treating them as background decoration. Their images and clues connect directly to the later board puzzle.
If the projector appears to need an item you do not have, also check the seating area. Sitting down to watch the films is an easy interaction to miss, especially when you are focused on the projector itself. After you have seen the relevant material, revisit the cinema rooms and look for the route that was not obvious on your first pass.
Check the Sand and the Projector Path
The cinema floor is sand, which makes it a useful place to test the Metal Detector if you already have it. This optional interaction can reveal the remote-control route and opens up more of the projector sequence. Use the remote on the projector when you obtain it, then follow the projected map into the mime-tent path.
Do not get stuck here if you are only completing the main story. The cinema clues themselves can point you to the Whack-a-Clown interaction, while the detector and remote path support deeper exploration. Return to the streets and keep talking to characters if the area still does not give you a clear next destination.
Recover Mellow’s Hands
Misery Town includes the checkerboard route where Mellow can recover his hands. The route is deliberately easy to overlook: inspect the available paths carefully and use the map or environmental clues instead of assuming the first exit is the correct one. This is a progression milestone, so pause to check your current objective before moving on.
Once you reach a new screen after the checkerboard sequence, inspect its objects and dialogue before leaving. Endacopia often uses a new item or changed interaction to show that an area has advanced. If you are looking for a single exact answer, switch to the dedicated puzzle page rather than trying every object in the town.
Solve Whack-a-Clown
The Whack-a-Clown board is a selection puzzle, not a test of speed or of clearing every target. Read the theatre clue, then use the answer page for the exact colors and board positions. A successful board gives you the Scalpel, which is the useful completion signal for this branch of Misery Town.
Open the Whack-a-Clown Puzzle Solution for the direct answer: it tells you which four clowns to hit, which four to leave standing, and what the finished board should look like. Return to this walkthrough once you have the Scalpel so you can continue without repeating the route context.
Continue Through the Mime Tent
The later projector path leads through the mime tent and into a darker version of the clown-room sequence. Follow the environmental changes instead of immediately backing out when the scene shifts. New exits and changed backgrounds are usually your signal that the route has advanced.
Use each newly acquired item where the environment suggests it belongs. If you have reached a screen with several strange objects, try Observe first, then compare the result with your inventory before using an item. This approach prevents an unclear room from turning into a random-clicking loop.
Prepare for the Trapezist
Misery Town is ready to hand off when you have finished its core interactions and can trigger the Trapezist encounter. Before doing so, save if you have a save point available and finish any spoiler-light exploration you care about. This gives you a clean place to return to if you want to revisit optional discoveries.
The boss handoff is not the place to solve every hidden route in the area. If you are pursuing completion or the later ending branches, keep a separate save before committing; otherwise, continue through the encounter and move to the next story section when the game opens it.
